New Kid Rock Album On The Way

Kid Rock rode the coattails of the rap-rock, ahem, “revolution” at the turn of the millennium to get famous and turn himself into a household name. He later dabbled in country, and later still Pamela Anderson. Now, he’s graced us with the greatest American rock album any of us will ever here. Or that’s his opinion, anyway. According to Billboard, the new Kid Rock album, Rock and Roll Jesus, is, in his humble estimation, one that, “…defines America; if you just had to play one American rock album for somebody, this would be it.” That’s a bold statement, but Kid Rock has never been one for subtlety. Word has it he leaves the rap at home (hopefully for good) in favor of country ballads and southern-fried rock and roll, head-banging metal and some gospel-flavored tenderness. Of course, there’s a song about Ms. Anderson and the pair’s ten second marriage last year. The album’s final track, “Half Your Age,” sees Rock giving the big kiss-off to his ex-wife. “I think people expect it,” Rock commented. “I’d be stupid to pretend it didn’t happen and not say anything.” The country-flavored song’s chorus ends with a line about Rock finding a new girlfriend that’s “twice as hot.” The album also features a mash-up of Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London” and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama.” Rock enlisted the services of Skynyrd’s piano player, Billy Powell, to play on the track, titled “All Summer Long.” There’s another track on the album, “Amen,” that Rock refers to as “the greatest song I’ve ever written.” In addition to his overwhelming sense of the album’s inherent worth, Rock went on to describe the record as “like going to church drunk on a Saturday night.” Don’t ask me what that means, but it sounds pretty righteous.
